‘Very difficult’ to raise interest rates without ‘inspiring a recession’

Montgomery Investment Management founder Roger Montgomery says it is “very difficult” to raise interest rates to quell inflation “without inspiring a recession”.

Mr Montgomery said rising prices for energy and food “acts like a tax” on people’s consumption.

“Then you’ve got petrol prices, act like a tax, higher interest rates, acts like a tax,” he told Sky News host Ross Greenwood.
